Bart-Jan Prak (1972) graduated in Environmental Sciences and is currently working for the Dutch secretary of agriculture where his main job is developing protected nature areas.
At age 11 Bart-Jan first went on a birding tour and when somebody pointed out a beautiful male Ortolan Bunting to him, he was hooked for life. In the years following that first tour Bart-Jan started to get more and more interested in (sea)bird migration and he regularly does bird counts in the province of Groningen in the north of The Netherlands. Since graduation he has travelled extensively, not just within Europe, but to other parts of the world as well: South Africa, Gambia, Mexico, Canada, India, China and New Zealand.
When in Holland, Bart-Jan can often be found birding on one of the Wadden Isles or the northern coastline of the country.
I have just completed an excellent four day birding trip with Birding Holland. The guides Martijn and Jan Bart were extremely knowledgeable and very good company and I saw great birds that would be considered rarities in the UK and furthermore had great views of them.
The accommodation was comfortable and the whole trip from planning through execution was painless and efficient. I have no hesitation in warmly recommending them to any birders planning a trip to the Netherlands!
